One acronym, six meanings. Start with the one Britain searches for.
What is EPC? An Energy Performance Certificate.
An EPC (Energy Performance Certificate) is a legal document that rates a building's energy efficiency from A (best) to G (worst). In England, Wales and Northern Ireland you need one to sell or let a property, and it stays valid for 10 years. Landlords currently need band E or better to let.
If you drive a Volkswagen and your dashboard says EPC, you want a different page. Everyone else: tap your band, tell us your situation, and read the verdict.
Band D: lettable today. Not after 1 October 2030.
D clears the current band E floor, so you can let and re-let now. But the confirmed 2030 rules raise the floor to band C for private lets in England and Wales, with a £10,000 cost cap per property. Plan works before the deadline, not after it.

Not the certificate you were looking for?
The acronym collision is real: six unrelated fields all call something EPC. Each has its own corner of this site, and none of them will try to sell you loft insulation.
