Who writes and checks it
whatisepc.com is researched, written and verified by Oliver Wakefield-Smith, founder of Digital Signet, a UK publisher of reference and data sites including ukepccheck.com, the EPC register lookup this site links to where a lookup genuinely helps. Verification is against the primary documents themselves: legislation, government guidance and responses, scheme operator pages, standards bodies. There is no separate editorial board to invoke and we will not invent one; what you get is a named author, dated verification, and sources you can click.
The editorial rules
- Verified or absent. Every figure carries a SourceSeal resolving through the source register. Where a number could not be verified (national EPC price averages, VW repair costs), the page says so and publishes none.
- Confirmed and proposed are different things. Rules in force, confirmed decisions with dates, government targets and consultation proposals are labelled apart, most visibly on the reform tracker.
- Verdict first, caveats after. Every page answers its question in the first paragraph. UK spelling, statutory vocabulary without legalese.
- Guidance, not advice. This site explains rules; it does not know your contract, your building or your dispute. For decisions with money attached, read the cited instrument or take professional advice.
The lodgement line
The record at the foot of each page, styled after a register lodgement, states who prepared the page, when it was last verified, and how many primary sources it cites. It is the site's provenance made visible in the grammar of the document it explains. This page explains it once so the footer never has to.
Report an error
Found a figure that is wrong, stale, or missing its seal? Email oliver@digitalsignet.com with the page URL. Corrections that survive checking against the primary source ship with the next verification pass and update the affected page's lodgement line.
